How To Prepare For A Move

What To Work On Months In Advance

Preparing to move into a new home can be a full time job if you don’t plan and prepare for your move months in advance. Part of our job as a moving company in St. George, Utah, includes helping people pack up their things to move from house to house. And we have seen first hand the stress and unhappiness that comes from procrastinating a move. If you are going to be moving in the near future, here are some tasks you can work on months in advance. Doing these things will help you to save time and money on your next move.

Collect Boxes

When preparing for your move, each time you find a discarded cardboard box you’ll feel like a pirate who just found a treasure chest. It’s silly to pay for moving boxes so keep your eyes open and you’ll start to notice them laying around. Start saving any that you can find because you’ll use tons of them in your upcoming move.

Pack The Unnecessary Things

We all have those items in our home that we don’t really use, but can’t bring ourselves to throw away. That’s ok. Just take those items and carefully pack them away now since you probably won’t use them between now and the move.

You can also pack away seasonal items that won’t be used in the immediate future. For example, if it’s summer, you can probably go ahead and pack up the snow skis and parkas.

Have a Yard Sale

While you have those things that you can’t bare to get rid of, there are some items that you probably should part with to make your move cheaper and easier. So why not host a yard sale? You can get rid of some unwanted items and make a few extra dollars. It’s a win-win situation for everyone. Make sure to do adequate advertising to get a decent turn out at your sale!

Plan Out Your Meals

You’ve got all that food in the cupboards that you can’t sell at the yard sale, and you don’t want to throw it away. Solution: Eat it. Plan out your meals for the next month or however long until you move. And try to use everything that you have. You will save money on groceries and cut your moving bill by a significant amount.

Happy Moving!
